A VICTORIAN steam engine is to be fired up this weekend to educate and entertain children. Under-16s can go to the Crossness Engines Industrial Museum, in Belvedere Road, Abbey Wood, for free on Sunday to watch the rare operation of the giant Prince Consort engine.

The museum is able to start up the machine five times a year, after it was slowly restored by enthusiasts in the surrounding community.

The day will run from 10.30am to 5pm and tickets for adults cost £5.

For details, call the museum on a Tuesday or Sunday on 020 8311 3711 or visit www.crossness.org.uk.
