Labour wins in council election

LABOUR has scored an overwhelming victory in one of the borough council elections. The party retains its stronghold in Greenwich, winning 39 of the 51 seats. A recount is taking place for Blackheath Westcombe ward and a winner is expected to be announced

LABOUR has scored an overwhelming victory in one of the borough council elections.

The party retains its stronghold in Greenwich, winning 39 of the 51 seats. A recount is taking place for Blackheath Westcombe ward and a winner is expected to be announced as early as 4.30pm.

The Conservatives took only nine seats in three wards, Coldharbour and New Eltham, Eltham North and Eltham South.

Penelope Daniel narrowly missed out for Labour in Coldharbour and New Eltham, falling 353 votes short of third-placed Conservative, Neil Dickinson.
