A MAN who believes all Britain should commit to landing a hamster on the moon, and get it safely back again, is standing for the Monster Raving Loony Party at the general election.

Napoleon Dynamite, 48, of from York Avenue, Sidcup, who is named after the eccentric teenage character from the 2004 cult film, is hoping to be elected in the Old Bexley and Sidcup constituency at the general election on May 6.

Even though his real name is David Warner, the name voters will see on the ballot paper is Napoleon Dynamite.

The father-of-three said: "This is the first time I have stood for anything like this, and I've always wanted to do something funny and quirky.

"Napoleon Dynamite is my favourite film, and I needed something to grab people's attention so I thought it was perfect."

In the film, Napoleon turns round the fate of his hopeless classmate Pedro, and helps him get elected as class president.

Proposals made in the Monster Raving Loony Party's manifesto include the outlawing wire coathangers and making it illegal for superheroes to use the powers for evil purposes.

IT consultant Mr Warner sees a serious side to his alias Napoleon Dynamite, adding: "Although I love the quirky side, I want to give the electorate a serious opportunity to make a protest vote against the main parties.
