EXTRA police patrols and additional CCTV is to be installed across the borough during the World Cup.

The police and the council have been advising pubs and clubs in Bexley which are due to host television coverage of the event.

Chairman of Bexley Community Safety Partnership, Katie Perrior, said: "A major event like the World Cup generates massive public interest and offers a great opportunity for the licensed trade.

"We are working closely with Bexley police using the same approach to the World Cup that we have taken to Halloween, Bonfire night and St George's Day.

"We will, however, take a tough line with anyone who does not follow the rules and who does not take seriously their role in encouraging responsible drinking and discouraging anti-social behaviour.
