Late night levy rejected by Bexley Council

The introduction of a late night levy was rejected by Bexley Council’s licensing committee on Tuesday night (19).

New local authority powers to charge premises which serve alcohol from midnight to 6am come into effect in June this year.

Cllr Brad Smith, chairman of the licensing committee, said: “There are not a significant number of licensed premises which would be affected by this late night levy and estimates suggest that as little as only £1,000 per year would be raised for Bexley by implementing this.”

Bexley police have indicated that they have no desire to see a levy introduced in the borough.
