A LEADER of a council is stepping down after he was offered a job by the new Mayor of London.

A LEADER of a council is stepping down after he was offered a job by the new Mayor of London.

Bexley council leader Ian Clement has been offered a job by Boris Johnson as Deputy Mayor for Government Relations, liaising with national, regional and local councils.

Mr Clement was Mr Johnson's political advisor during the mayoral campaign. In his new role he will oversee the mayoral offices overseas.

l London Assembly member for Bromley and Bexley James Cleverly has denied rumours he will be the mayor's race relations advisor.
