Erith and Thamesmead MP Teresa Pearce has pledged support to a new campaign
Erith and Thamesmead MP Teresa Pearce pledged to support Marie Curie in calling for high quality palliative and end of life care for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people.
The Labour MP’s backing comes after a new report was published by the charity, looking at the barriers preventing LGBT people from accessing end of life care.
Findings from the report show nearly three quarters of LGBT people are not confident that health and social care services provide the correct end of life care for their needs.
It means many members of the community delay seeking care, dealing with unmanaged symptoms and pain at the end of their lives.
One in four of the reports respondents said they had experienced discrimination from health and social care professionals in their lifetime.
Ms Pearce described the report as “deeply saddening”.
