COMMUNITY facilities including a library and a gym are on a wish list for a site for 500 new homes.

COMMUNITY facilities including a library and a gym are on a "wish list" for a site for 500 new homes.

Bexley councillors gave the go ahead for the sale of land behind the existing council offices at the Howbury Centre in Slade Green, to be used for the building of the new homes.

They also agreed that space within the site should be allocated for new facilities, drawing up a wish list including a learndirect and adult education space, a dedicated youth space and two multi-use games areas.

This comes after a public consultation about the site began last autumn.

Regeneration councillor Linda Bailey said: "This is an exciting project with significant benefits for Slade Green. The initial consultation has helped determine the amount of space needed and given the council an idea of the facilities residents would like to see. We need to get the mix right within the allocated space and will need the help of the residents of to do that."

The search for a partner to develop housing on part of the site is expected to begin next year. Existing buildings will be used by the council until at least 2015.
