A MAN fell 40ft onto a major road and brought traffic to a standstill while he was airlifted to hospital.

The man fell after descending via a fence on the elevated side of the A2 dual carriageway from Eltham Park at 3.50pm, causing the A2 to be closed for the Friday rush hour.

London ambulance service and Hems air ambulance attended and discovered the 26-year-old man on the London bound carriageway.

He was airlifted to a London hospital and is in a critical, but stable, condition in hospital. The incident caused major traffic disruption to large parts of the road network in the area and police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident - particularly anyone who may have seen the man prior to him falling onto the carriageway. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0300 123 1212.
