A MAN has been jailed after for raping an 11-year-old-girl in his flat.

Omololu Babatunde, 29, from Edge Hill, Woolwich, was sentenced to ten years imprisonment at Woolwich Crown Court, last Friday after being found guilty of rape.

Babatunde, who has spent the last 233 days in custody, befriended his victim while she was walking to a shop, in November last year.

He met her in an alleyway near Herbert Road, Woolwich and persuaded her to walk back to his flat, where he raped her.

He let the victim go, but later met her again on a bus and told her that he would kill her if she reported what happened to anyone.

Police identified the suspect as he told the victim his name was 'Baba'.

He was arrested on January 15 this year, when he denied any involvement with the rape but confirmed he knew his victim, saying he had helped her in the past, by giving her money.

But he was charged the next day.

He will be placed on the Sex Offenders' Register indefinitely.

He has also been banned from working with children in a paid or voluntary capacity, indefinitely.
