Man set for court date over manslaughter charge

A MAN is to appear in court charged with the manslaughter of a 64-year-old.

Billy Keith Williams, 23, of Luddesdon Road, Erith was due to appear at Bexley Magistrates Court yesterday charged with the manslaughter of Charles Stewart Campbell. Police were called at 5.28pm to Bexley Road, Erith, last Sunday where they found the victim with serious head injuries.

Mr Campbell was taken by ambulance to hospital where he died the next day.

A post-mortem examination at the Princess Royal Hospital, Farnborough on Tuesday gave the cause of death as an injury to the brain.

The victim is from the Bexleyheath area but originally lived in Paisley, Scotland.

A 39-year-old man has been bailed in connection with the incident, to return to a police station pending further inquiries on October 14.

A 16-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl were also arrested but later released with no further action.

Detectives from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command are investigating the incident.
