A 21-YEAR-OLD who was seriously injured in a New Year's Day fall in Mexico returned to the UK on Saturday.

Philip Pain, 21 from Bexleyheath, suffered life threatening injuries in the plunge in the city of Mazatlan where he was receiving medical attention until the weekend.

After arriving at Gatwick Airport the former Dartford Grammar School for Boys student, was transferred to King's College Hospital, London, where he faces further operations.

His injury sparked a huge internet campaign which saw thousands join a Facebook group to try and find him some much needed type O-negative blood.

It is not known how the Southampton university student came to fall from the balcony but his father previously indicated he may have been sleepwalking.

Toxicology reports show there was no drink or drugs present in his system at the time of the incident.
