A SCHOOLGIRL has reached the finals in a professional modelling competition.

A SCHOOLGIRL has reached the finals in a professional modelling competition.

Welling School student Mary Hackwood, 15, from Bexley, was chosen as one of 33 finalists in the Miss Top Model 2009 competition.

The model search took more than 2,000 applications this year, and one winner and 10 runners-up will be selected at a grand final at The Porchester Hall, Paddington, on March 27.

The former Crook Log Primary School pupil said: "I was shocked to be selected. I'm really looking forward to getting on to the catwalk again.

"I'm going to college this year to study Early Years and my ultimate goal is to go into nursing.

"But I love modelling and you never know what will happen and you must take all the chances you can."
