A MURDER investigation was launched after a man was stabbed to death on a housing estate.

Police were called at about 9.30pm on Friday, October 30 to reports of a man stabbed in Tavy Bridge estate, off Yarnton Way, Abbey Wood.

On arrival police discovered a 22-year-old man suffering from stab wounds, who was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:02pm.

A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police said: "We believe we know the identity of the deceased and have informed next of kin but await formal identification.

"A post mortem examination will take place today (October 31) at the Princes Royal Hospital, Farnborough.

"Officers from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command are investigating. We are keeping an open mind as regards to any motive."
