Trust Thamesmead has opened a brand new community centre - the Birchmere Community Hub - for people in the area.

The new venue - which will provide health and wellbeing activities - is open three days per week, on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. The hub is hoping it will be able to extend its opening hours in the next few months.

It offers a ‘stay and play’ service for parent and toddlers, and also hosts ‘cook and eat’ sessions. A community garden, community cafe and space for Health Champions meetings are also on offer at the hub.

Trust Thamesmead is part of the Peabody Group - one of London’s largest housing associations. It works with a number of community groups across the Thamesmead area.

Peabody’s chief executive, Stephen Howlett said: “Offering a number of health and wellbeing activities, we hope the community will like what the new centre has to offer. Thank you goes to the service providers who call Birchmere Community Hub their home whilst offering a number of health and wellbeing activities to the community, and a huge thank you goes to our partners who have played a vital role into getting the centre ready for public use. This would not have been possible without support from our partners.”
