A New Eltham man abseiled down the iconic Twickenham Stadium to raise money for the troops.

David Pelling, 38, took on the challenge as part of Take the Leap to support the Commando Spirit Appeal.

He was joined by England Rugby World Cup winner Andy Gomarsall and injured Royal Marine turned motivational speaker Andrew Grant on October 5.

David said: “My friends, families, colleagues and the generous people of New Eltham have been incredibly supportive so far.

“This was without a doubt the most terrifying and exhilarating experience of my life but importantly it will help raise a fantastic sum for a worthwhile cause.”

Other locations involved in the challenge have been The Shard and St Pancras Station.

The appeal hopes to raise £1m by 2014.

Commando Spirit Appeal founder Sally-Anne Hunter said: “We are thrilled David chose to take part in the challenge.

“He showed qualities of courage and determination by helping us in our mission.”
