A SUPERMARKET chain has released the design of a shop due to be opened in a high street.

Morrisons has revealed an artist's impressions of its plans to build a store on the former Co-op site in Welling High Street.

Traders told the Times they were keen to see the 64,000 sq ft store reopen as the closure of the Co-Op and relocation of Tesco last year meant fewer shoppers visited the high street.

A Morrisons spokesperson said: "The new store will include a fresh fish counter, butchers counter, oven fresh counter and bakery staffed by expertly trained craftspeople."

A planning application to refurbish the 64,000 sq ft store was received by Bexley council on March 12 and is due to be considered by councillors.

The site's pharmacy and post office is expected to be relocated to the car park behind the store whilst building work takes places.
