Part of Mayplace Road East is closed after an oil spillage affected a number of areas in Bexleyheath this morning.

A moving vehicle is believed to have spilled large quantities of oil, affecting an area spanning nearly two miles, including Broadway, Market Place, Ansberg Way and Chapel Road.

A spokesperson for Bexley Council said: “Officers are on site and a gritter has been loaded with sand to treat the affected areas.

“Our priority is to make the roads safe.”
