A VICTORIAN steam engine is due to be stoked up for an open day.

Expert volunteers that restored the Crossness Pumping station, in Belvedere Road, Abbey Wood, will demonstrate the machine's functions to the public, on Sunday, April 26.

The elaborately decorated station, built in to pump sewage across London in the 1800s, will be open between 10.30am and 5pm. Tickets are £5 and children get in for free.
