Police officers working in the early hours on Monday morning were on the hunt for a bright yellow JCB.
Officers were called to a building site in Erith just after 1.15pm, after the vehicle was stolen.
A search of the area began, and officers spotted the digger driving along Northend Road.
According to Bexley police, officers signalled the driver to stop, which, “after a short while”, it did.
A 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and theft of a motor vehicle.
Officers then discovered the suspect was also wanted for two theft offences and recall to prison.
He was arrested for these offences and is currently being held in custody at a south London police station.
A picture of the vehicle was posted onto the force’s twitter account, describing the incident as ‘unusual’.
