A VICTORY for democracy has been won by residents fighting the development of a sports field.

A 'VICTORY for democracy' has been won by residents fighting the development of a sports field.

Developers Novalong Ltd lost its case against Greenwich council and the secretary of state to build homes on the former Gaelic Sports Ground in Avery Hill, on July 28.

The site, owned by the Gaelic Athletic Association, has been empty for more than 15 year.Eltham MP Clive Efford dubbed the case a classic example of land banking, when valuable land is kept empty for years whilst developers seek permission to build.
