Salt available from council’s reuse and recycling centre

Residents are being advised to prepare for winter by stocking up on salt.

As in previous years, bagged rock salt and scoops are available from the council’s reuse and recycling centre.

They are being sold on a first-come-first-served basis and only on production of the council’s orange reuse and recycling centre permit.

The scheme is limited to one bag of rock salt and one snow scoop per household.

The cost of 25kg bagged rock salt is £5 and a pre-assembled snow scoop is £9.

The Council has also made its own winter preparations.

Salt stocks for the borough’s roads have been replenished, with 6,000 tonnes in stock.

Additionally, the Council’s five front line gritters have been serviced and calibrated and are ready for action, together with pedestrian snow ploughs and brushes, which help keep the borough’s shopping centres accessible during snowfall.

Bexley’s winter maintenance service runs from October to April. It covers all principal, main and secondary distributor roads and roads with steep gradients. The ‘blue routes’, as they are called, encompass 145 miles of the boroughs road network.

The reuse and recycling centre is on Maidstone Road, Foots Cray, DA14 5HS.
