Plan your routes carefully from Monday

Drivers and pedestrians face disruption next week with roadworks starting in Sidcup and Welling.

On Monday (March 16) work starts from 9am in Sidcup High Street on repairs to pavements damaged while work was carried out last year on water pipes. The repairs are expected to last one week.

In a bid to keep the High Stret open to pedestrians, the same one-way system used during the original repairs will be used.

This means entry to the High Street will be closed at the Main Road junction, with the diversion route via Elm Road and The Green. Hadlow Road and Hatherley Road will remain open as normal.

Meanwhile, eastbound bus services will be affected too, with buses being diverted and delays possible. Buses will stop in Elm Road and follow the diversion route until they return back to their original route outside Waitrose.

And in Welling, work also begins on Monday (March 16) in Westwood Lane. It will be closed to northbound traffic at its junction with Bellegrove Road while investigations are carried out on a sewer collapse. Access to and from the nearby car park will continue.

Bexley Council is apologising for any inconvenience and disruption that may be caused by the works.

It said: “We will try to keep this to a minimum and the works will be completed as quickly as possible.”
