It was secondary school offer day last week, and in Bexley all applicants who applied on time have been offered a place.

Out of the 3,036 applications, 96pc are being offered one of their six preferences, with 71pc of children being offered their first preference school, a figure above the London average of 66pc.

A total of 13.6pc received their second preference, and 5.8pc their third preference.

Cabinet member for education, Cllr John Fuller said: “I’m delighted that we have been able to offer so many families their first choice and that no child in our borough is without a school place.

“It’s a testament to our primary school staff and school place team, and an indication that the right advice is being offered to parents.”

Out of the 3,036 applications, 120 children could not be offered any of their preferences.

Those children have been offered a place at the closest available school to their home.
