Sidcup Police Station is closing today at 4pm after more than 100 years in operation

Bexley Police had originally released a statement saying the station, on Main Road, would close on Friday but that date has been brought forward by two days.

Operations will move to Marlowe House, on Staion Road, on Monday morning.

The Main Road site opened from 12pm to 4pm from Monday to Friday and from 10am to 2pm on Saturday’s.

Chief Superintendent Dave Stringer said: “The user friendly premises at Marlowe House will be a nicer environment for those attending, those working there and volunteers who give up their time to provide services for the local community.

“It is a convenient location close to shops and the leisure centre and is well serviced by public transport links.

“Savings generated by the closure of this police station will go towards reducing the impact of these challenging financial pressures the MPS currently faces.”

When the station closes the only two full-time police stations in Bexley Borough will be in Bexleyheath and Belvedere.

Sidcup Community Group said: “As we feared, the closure will take place before any alternative premises in central Sidcup are found.

“There is hardly enough room at Marlowe House for 12 officers for two wards, let alone 18 officers for three wards.”
