The sinkhole opened just north of East Wickham

Nearly 50 people had to be evacuated from their homes on Monday after a sink hole opened up in Brickfield Cottages.

Fire crews spent nearly seven hours at the scene, just outside East Wickham, as they created a 25 metre hazard zone.

The hole itself measured five by five metres, and caused 48 people to be evacuated.

Police and the local authority were left in charge of the scene.
