Soldier killed in Afghanistan named

A SOLDIER killed in a blast in Afghanistan has been named by the Ministry of Defence. Rifleman Aidan Howell, 19, from Sidcup, was known as Sunshine Boy and died in the Kajaki area of Helmand on Monday afternoon. He came from 3rd Battalion, The Rifles

A SOLDIER killed in a blast in Afghanistan has been named by the Ministry of Defence.

Rifleman Aidan Howell, 19, from Sidcup, was known as "Sunshine Boy" and died in the Kajaki area of Helmand on Monday afternoon.

He came from 3rd Battalion, The Rifles the same battalion as Rifleman James Stephen Brown, from Orpington, who was killed by Taliban suicide bombers on Tuesday December 15.

Rifleman Aidan Howell's family paid tribute to him saying: "He may be recognised as a hero now, but to his family and everyone lucky enough to know him, he was already a hero."

He was the 107th British soldier to die in Afghanistan this year.
