Songstress to climb Ben Nevis

A songstress who beat cancer a year ago and performed at the Last Night of the Proms will climb the highest mountain in the British Isles to raise money for charity.
Yvonne Connell, 49, of Cyril Road, Bexleyheath, will complete the Ben Nevis Challenge to raise money for Breast Cancer Care on Sunday, October 3.
On Saturday she sang with the BBC Symphony Chorus, of which she has been a member for the last 25 years.
She was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2007 and, after undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup, she finished her treatment in March 2008 and has since been free of the disease. She said: “I’ve never attempted anything like this before. I’ve joined a gym and been trying to do some running, which is a bit of a challenge because there aren’t any hills around here.
“I’m looking forward to finishing and getting it over with although I’m worried that I’m not going to be fit enough.”
Ms Connell’s father, who is in his 80s, will also be climbing the mountain although he won’t be participating in the challenge.
