POLICE were injured in a violent brawl that broke out when students were barred from a packed bus.

More than 40 Orpington College students were waiting for a 51 bus outside Boots in Orpington High Street at 5.30pm on Tuesday when the clash occurred.

As the Times went to press, a 17-year-old boy from Dartford was still detained having been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and assault on police. An 18-year-old woman from Belvedere was still under arrest on suspicion of violent disorder.

A teenage boy and girl from Greenwich were also still being held by police.

Police claimed the driver had only let on about 15 students, and despite being told by a PCSO they would have to wait for the next bus, students started to kick the doors and press the emergency button.

Police backup arrested seven students and closed the street until 6.30pm.

A police spokesman said: "The 25-year old male PCSO sustained a cut above his left eye and was taken by LAS to a south London hospital.

"Two other police officers were also struck during the incident".
