Services have now resumed

Trains between Dartford and Greenwich were suspended earlier after a suspect package was reportedly found in Erith.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the Woolwich line was closed, but after inspection British Transport Police decided the item was not suspicious.

A spokesperson said: “We attended the line near Pembroke Road, Erith, Kent after a report of a suspicious item found near the tracks.

“This was reported to BTP at 11.56am on Monday and trains in the area were stopped while officers determined the nature of the object.

“The item was examined and deemed not to be suspicious, and officers will now be carrying out enquiries to establish the nature of the item and how it came to be near the railway.”

While services have now resumed, commuters are warned to expect delays in the area.
