Talented veteran actress who trained in Sidcup dies aged 80

An accomplished Shakespearean actress who studied in Sidcup has died aged 80.

Patsy Byrne, who became best known as Nursie- the barmy but loyal servant of Elizabeth I in Blackadder, passed away at Denville Hall retirement home, Hillingdon, on June 17.

The Kent born actress trained for the stage at Rose Bruford College, Burnt Oak Lane, Sidcup before making her first professional appearance in 1955 at the Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch.

The veteran star joined the Royal Shakespeare Company and enjoyed a successful Television career, appearing in programmes including Inspector Morse, Two Point Four Children and Holby City until 2006.
