A 17-YEAR-OLD girl died after being hit by a truck whilst crossing a road in the middle of the afternoon.

The girl, who has not been formally identified by the police, was crossing Brampton Road in Bexleyheath, at the junction with Crook Log, on Tuesday at approximately 2.20pm when the accident happened.

She died at the scene while the 61-year-old male driver of the Volvo HGV tipper truck escaped without injury.

The victim's next of kin have been informed and a date for a postmortem has yet to be set.

No arrests have been made and police would like to speak to anyone who was near the scene at the time.

PS Simon Seeley said: "Crook Log is a busy main road and is also near the Crook Log Leisure Centre so I would expect there to have been a fair number of pedestrians and vehicles in the area."

Anyone with any information can call the unit on 020 8285 1574, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 to remain anonymous.
