A teenager who killed a pensioner in a hit-and-run after driving a stolen car onto a footpath has been jailed for 18 months.

Michael Philbert simply drove off after knocking down Brenda Croke in Eynsham Drive, Abbey Wood, on the morning of June 19 last year.

Ms Croke, 64, of nearby Grovebury Road, died at the scene of the accident from multiple injuries.

Philbert, who was 17 at the time of the crash and had no driving licence, will spend nine months in youth custody, then will be released, spending a further nine months on licence.

The 18-year-old, of Constable Mews, Bromley, was also banned from driving for three years at Woolwich Crown Court. He had admitted causing death by careless driving at a hearing last month.

Although the car was stolen, he could not conclusively be linked to its theft.
