Borough is ninth most at risk in the borough

Bexley is in the top ten London boroughs at risk of flooding, according to new research.

Research by property consultants Groundsure revealed that 10,818 homes in the borough - almost one in five - were at risk of being deluged.

The most at-risk borough is Hammersmith and Fulham, where almost 60,000 homes are at risk. Bexley ranks at number nine.

From April, some homeowners at high risk of flooding will be able to insure their house specifically against flood damage.

Dan Montagnani, managing director of Groundsure, said: “It is essential that you consider the history of flooding in the area where you are thinking of buying a home - not just from rivers but also how the land and sewer systems have coped with sudden deluges.

“Insurance is essential but it can’t replace those precious photos or months of disruption while your home dries out.”
