Thamesmead Library moves into new home during Southmere Village redevelopment

Thamesmead Library has moved to its now temporary home at the northern end of Binsey Walk, close to The Link.

Residents looking to check-out books will visit here until the new library is built as part of the Southmere Village redevelopment works in around two years.

The sale of kitchen and garden waste recycling bags, and parking permits, will continue.

Cllr Don Massey, cabinet member for community safety and leisure, said: “This move means we are another step closer to a brand new purpose built library for Thamesmead residents.

“Meanwhile the temporary building is so good you could be mistaken in thinking it is the new premises! It really is a home from home for users and staff and a perfect compromise while the work takes place.”

Library opening hours will remain the same. Details can be found at, or by calling on 020 8303 7777.
