A Thamesmead woman who was found murdered in her home with her hands and ankles tied has been named.

Pam Wheeler, 76, was discovered in the Newacres Road property by police on Sunday after police became worried about her whereabouts.

Det Ch Insp Graeme Gwyn is running the case. He said: “We believe Mrs Wheeler was last seen on Thursday by her neighbours. She usually leaves food bowls out for cats in the area and neighbours noticed they were empty on Friday.

“This is a shocking and tragic crime, taking away all dignity and respect. I would urge anyone who has any information on this murder to contact us as soon as possible.”

He added burglary is one of a number of possible motives they are pursuing.

A post-mortem examination was held at Greenwich Mortuary yesterday afternoon but did not determine and exact cause of death.

There has been no arrest at present.

Anyone with any information should call the incident room at Lewisham Police Staion on 020 8721 4805 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
