Thamesmead secure rare away win

PUBLISHED: 11:49 03 December 2012

Thamesmead Town won away for just the second time this season to continue their excellent run.

A 4-2 victory at promotion rivals Potters Bar Town on Saturday was a fifth win in six games for Keith McMahon’s side.

The results leaves Mead fifth in the Ryman North Division table, but some 14 points behind leaders Maldon and Tiptree at the top.

New striker Stuart Zanone scored his first two league goals for the club, the first giving Thamesmead a 2-0 lead after Rob Carter had opened the scoring.

Daniel Ailey pulled one back for Potters Bar but Zanone scored again to make it 3-1 at half-time.

Despite Gary Wharton reducing the deficit to one goal again Carter secured the three points late in the second half.

A busy Christmas and New Year period sees Thamesmead play seven more times up to January 1, including the scheduled Ryman League Cup game at home to Aveley, which is at Bayliss Avenue tomorrow.
