Thamesmead slip to second home defeat of the season

Thamesmead Town twice threw away the lead against Cheshunt to lose only their second home game of the season.

Needham Market had been the only team to come away from Bayliss Avenue in the Ryman North Division with three points but the 3-2 defeat leaves Mead in sixth position.

After a goalless first-half the game came to life seconds after the restart.

Ashley Probets swung in a free-kick and Addae Baff forced the ball into the net at the back post.

The lead did not last long as Cheshunt equalised within a minute, with Courtney White scoring.

Thamesmead retook the lead on 54 minutes through a Chris Edwards free-kick, and striker Stuart Zanone missed a great chance to make the points safe.

It was to prove costly as White grabbed his second of the game with 15 minutes remaining, and Tommy Fletcher scored the winning goal for the Hertfordshire team after 84 minutes.

A busy festive period sees them play Heybridge Swifts at home on Saturday before games on Boxing Day, the 29th and New Year’s Day.
