Thamesmead teenager Michael Akintunde is celebrating after receiving a prestigious scholarship to study at Imperial College London.

The former Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School student will have some of his fees paid for by the Institution of Engineering and Technology to study maths and computer science at the university.

Michael said: “It was a pleasant surprise to find out about the great news, and I am extremely grateful to the IET and appreciate the huge amount of support the scholarship will bring to my studies.

“I must also take the time to thank the past schools that I attended, both Chis & Sid and Erith School, for the limitless help from the teachers, the great experience, and the encouragement to always push myself further.

“The summer exam season in my second year of A-Levels were really tough, with a great deal of exams that I had to get through, including a daunting 3-hour one right at the end of it (a demanding Mathematics paper called STEP), but somehow I managed to pull through.”
