The English teacher will star next month

A TV advert encouraging new recruits for teaching will star a Thamesmead English teacher.

From April 1, the Your Future: Their Future advert from the National College for Teaching and Leadership will beam onto our screens.

And the Woolwich Polytechnic School teacher will be a key face in the campaign.

She said: “I love being a teacher. Young people are funny and smart and inspiring. It’s a privilege to be able to work with them.

“It’s great to be involved in the campaign to encourage more people to become teachers.”

Ms Oyeniyi started teaching four years ago after running workshops in the theatre with young people, and is now deputy head of year 11 at her school.

Roger Pope, chair of the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL), said: “Tayo is one of the country’s most inspiring and talented classroom teachers chosen to star in our advert, which explains why people with the passion and potential to teach should consider a career in the profession.

“It’s not too late to use your skills and experience to make a difference as a teacher. You can apply now to begin training in September.”
