Thamesmead Town clinch narrow win over Tilbury

Thamesmead Town consolidated their play-off position with a hard-fought 1-0 win at home to Tilbury on Saturday (6).

Striker Stuart Zanone scored the only goal of the game in the 21st minute following a pass from Baff Addae.

Mead stay third but one win from their final five matches will be enough to clinch one of the four Ryman League North play-off berths.

The home side created the better chances throughout against mid-table Tilbury but Rob Carter had a goal disallowed for a foul on the visiting goalkeeper James Marrable, who also made decent saves from Lea Dawson and Zanone.

Tilbury did pose a threat going forward and had a goal of their own ruled out for offside in the second half, Danny Francis putting the ball into the back of the net after Ben Crooks headed against the post.

The victory stretched Thamesmead’s unbeaten run to six matches, five of which have been victories.

They could have clinched their place in the top five with a visit to Ware on Tuesday night (9).
