Thamesmead Town clinched their end-of-season play-off spot with two wins in a week - jumping into second place in the Ryman North Division in the process.

Mead thrashed Needham Market 5-0 away on Saturday to climb above Maldon and Tiptree, who lost to champions Grays Athletic on the same day.

In a tight first half, striker Stuart Zanone scored the only goal after 10 minutes before the visitors let loose after the interval.

Chris Edwards scored from a direct free-kick with 25 minutes remaining before Rob Carter netted after 77 minutes.

Zanone scored two goals in the last 10 minutes, one from the penalty spot, to complete his hat-trick along with a resounding victory.

Baff Addae scored the only goal in a 1-0 win at Ware last Tuesday (9). With three games to go Thamesmead will be looking to stay ahead of Maldon to ensure home advantage during the play-offs.

They welcome Brentwood Town to Bayliss Avenue tomorrow night, before facing Grays at home on Saturday. The visitors have already ensured they will be playing Ryman Premier Division football next season, and Thamesmead will be hoping to join them.
