Thamesmead Town consolidate play-off position

Thamesmead Town secured four points from their two Easter games thanks to a draw at Aveley and a thrashing of Chatham in the Ryman North Division.

Mead looked like coming away from the short trip to Avely on Saturday (March 30) with nothing after their skipper Lewis Tozer put through his own net with four minutes remaining.

But they showed superb fighting spirit to equalise in the second minute of stoppage time through Tyrus Gordon.

Thamesmead stayed on course for the play-offs yesterday with a 4-0 victory over Chatham at Bayliss Avenue.

Chris Edwards gave them the lead after just five minutes from a direct free-kick.

The lead was doubled just eight minutes later when another Edwards free-kick caused confusion in the Chatham defence and Ryan Laker scored an own goal.

Rob Carter made it 3-0 before half-time when he latched onto another set piece to finish past visiting goalkeeper Tim Roberts.

Only two minutes after the interval Chatham captain Matt Solly brought down Stuart Zanone in the penalty area, earning himself a second yellow card in the process.

Zanone scored from 12 yards and rather than inflict further punishment on their visitors.

Mead stay third and only a massive collapse would prevent them finishing in the top five.
