Thamesmead Town’s winning run halted by Witham

Thamesmead Town’s remarkable winning run came to an end as they crashed to a shock defeat at home to Witham Town on Saturday.

The only goal of the game at Bayliss Avenue came after eight minutes with Sam Taylor firing the ball past Mead goalkeeper Rob Budd.

Prior to Saturday’s game Thamesmead had won 10 league games in a row and have slipped back to fourth in the Ryman North Division.

The home side had plenty of chances to get back in the game but they missed a host of presentable opportunities.

Chris Edwards was denied by Witham goalkeeper Danny Sambridge, as were Rob Carter and James Donovan.

Enoch Adjei and Stuart Zanone both missed the target and Witham held on to complete the double over their hosts this season.

Thamesmead hope to get back on track with a visit to Brentwood Town tomorrow night before taking on Soham Town Rangers on Saturday.
