Thamesmead woman in critical condition after falling from building during second-floor apartment blaze

The fire started yesterday evening

A Thamesmead woman is in hospital in a critical condition after falling from a burning building yesterday (Thursday).

Emergency crews were called to Poplar Place from 5.18pm, after a fire broke out in a second-floor flat.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “A 57-year-old woman was taken to an east London hospital with injuries believed to have been sustained when she fell from the building.”

Half of the one-bedroom flat was damaged in the blaze, which crews from Erith, Bexley and Plumstead fire stations brought under control at 6.15pm.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation, Met Police confirmed enquiries are ongoing.
