Thamesmead youngsters to benefit from free construction course

Thamesmead youngsters have an opportunity to attend a free construction course led by Gallions Housing Association.

The course will run for 2 weeks, started yesterday (Wednesday) and continuing today, tomorrow, August 22 and 23.

The project will be an opportunity for trainees to earn a qualification in building construction skills, and to gain a very hands-on overview of many different aspects of construction such as plumbing, carpentry, tiling and electrics under the guidance of one of construction youth trust’s fully qualified trainers.

One successful participant will also have the opportunity to secure an apprenticeship following the course.

The aim of the partnership is to raise awareness about construction career opportunities for young people and to help reduce youth unemployment in the community.

Trust Thamesmead’s building futures project manager, Sharron Hawe, commented: “This is a fantastic and unique opportunity that has arisen from four companies working in partnership for the benefit of Thamesmead residents.

“As well as helping the eight people who secure a place on the course with interview techniques and CV writing, Building Futures will continue to support everyone else with future training and job searches.”

To sign up or to find our more about the course please contact Sharron Hawe at Thamesmead Trust on 0208 320 4472.
