Thieves targeting Bexley trophy cupboards with silverware

A spate of golf club break-ins has led Bexley police to issue a warning to any sports clubs or schools with a trophy cupboard.

Thieves have targeted the silverware and officers warned any venues which have a trophy display to make sure it was locked away.

Bexley’s Det Ch Insp Gary Holmes said: “With the high prices being paid for scrap metals, especially precious metals, we are asking Bexley venues with collections of trophies to pay extra attention to their security.

“Lock away the silverware, only bring it out for special occasions and do not leave it in display cases overnight or when the venue is closed and unattended.”
