Time running out to register Bexley children for selection tests

PUBLISHED: 16:24 07 May 2013 | UPDATED: 16:24 07 May 2013

Parents with children in Year 5 at a Bexley primary school have until July 14 to register them for the borough’s selection test for the four grammar schools.

There are two test papers with a mixture of questions in each, covering verbal ability and comprehension, numerical ability and non verbal reasoning.

In previous years, most children in Year 6 of Bexley primary schools automatically sat the selection test. This year, as part of Bexley’s education change programme, the process is changing.

Cabinet member for education Cllr John Fuller said; “We have made the selection test process more about personal choice for local children and parents. Not every child is suited for the test or will want to attend a grammar school.

“The previous system meant that children were put under undue stress for something they didn’t necessarily want. By registering we know that parents will have taken the time to discuss the options and decide whether a grammar school setting would suit their child.”
