TV CELEBRITY and fashion designer Gok Wan offered a special makeover to a Times competition winner.

TV CELEBRITY and fashion designer Gok Wan offered a special makeover to a Times competition winner.

The style guru spent the day with your Times and the excited contestant who was transformed for the day after entering our great contest.

Gok has become known for his unique sense of styling by turning his day-to-day models into style icons.

Last Saturday Gok visited the New Look store in Bluewater shopping centre to create the makeover after hundreds of readers from Bexley, Bromley, Gravesend and Dartford entered the Kentish Times competition.

Hannah Chapman, 14, a Leigh City Academy pupil, had her clothes, hair and make-up personally styled by Gok then posed for the cameras and crowds that had gathered in the store.

She said: "I've really enjoyed it today, especially having my hair and make-up done. I usually have my hair really straight and I wear lots of eyeliner but this is much more fun.

"I watch Gok every time he is on TV, he gives so many tips on how to look good.

"I usually wear skinny jeans and pumps but I think I'll try wearing skirts and dresses now. I think after today I'm going to be a bit more open to different styles."

Gok Wan told the Kentish Times: "I had a great time today! But I am thoroughly exhausted. It's been nice to meet Hannah and I think she looks great.

"It's a very rewarding experience. I think Hannah could definitely go into modelling, I think she's got a very good chance of succeeding. She's just got something about her and that's what's needed. She's got the X-factor!

"My dad's from Hong Kong and I would say the Asian culture definitely has an influence on me. Everything about the culture, even food - the taste of something can inspire a design.

"Basic tips for women are just be honest to yourself, be very true to yourself. You are your own judge, so look in the mirror, get out there and accept what you are, and enjoy yourself!

Miss Chapman's Dad Rob said: "I'm speechless. She looks absolutely stunning. She was extremely nervous. She nearly didn't turn up as she was so embarrassed but she did and I'm so proud of her.

"I think Gok has changed the attitude of men too. I ended up watching his programme and I have been dressing more sensibly. I think he's done a lot for fashion. The word 'fashion' used to go straight over my head. My wife always used to nag me but she's a lot happier now!"

Gok Wan will return to the shopping centre tomorrow to film his Channel 4 programme How To Look Good Naked. The series is back on TV this Spring.
