THE Conservatives have held Old Bexley and Sidcup

James Brokenshire, the Conservative candidate, received 24,625 votes.

Richard Everitt, Labour, received 8,768 votes and Duncan Barrowman from the Lib Dems received 6996

Mr Brokenshire said: "Someone sent me a good luck message this morning which said Carpe diem, and we have seized the day here.

"I have been humbled by the reaction I have received from local people and the key issue is the future of Queen Mary's hospital."

Other candidates include Elaine Cheeseman, English Democrats, with 520 votes, Napoleon Dynamite, Monster Raving Loony Party with 155 votes, John Brooks, BNP 2132, John Hemming Clark, Independent, 393 and David Coburn, UKIP with 1532
